Scrapping Materials

Scrapbooking popularity has exploded over the past couple of years. Scrapbooking is a wonderful way to preserve memories for years to come. However, scrapbooking is not as easy as throwing a few pictures on a page. Scrapping requires special planning, tools, and materials in order to create tasteful layouts for photographs.

Scrapbooking, or "Scrapping," is a great resource for keeping your fondest memories safe. It is important to only use materials that will not harm your photographs. The most important material used in scrapping is the scrapbook. Scrapbooks come in many varieties. Some are permanently bound, while others allow for inserts to be added later. Standard scrapbook size is 12" x 12", but the books come in many other shapes and sizes. All adhesives used should be acid free. Anything below 7.0 pH will slowly eat away at the paper and photos, causing discoloration and brittleness. Paper should also be acid free in addition to lignin free. Lignin is a naturally occurring acid that will break down the paper over time. Pens should be pigment based in order to prevent fading and bleeding if they get wet. A good pair of paper scissors is also necessary. Embellishments include items such as stamps, brads, eyelets, ribbon, and lettering.

More specialized materials are also available for serious scrappers. As of late, scrapbooking has been adapted to the digital world. This allows scrapping enthusiasts to share their books over the internet. No matter what your skill level or budget is, scrapbooking is a great way to share your precious memories.
