Get A Litte Practice In

Many people begin to scrapbook after a major life event. They haven't given a lot of thought to the past time before, and suddenly they find themselves getting married or having a baby, and they want a better way to preserve the memories. Something that captures the important occasion better than simply sliding photos into albums and leaving them. You want to remember the occasion, and you also want to be able to show everyone how special your event was.

The problem with this approach to scrapbooking is that our most precious scrapbooks are also our first scrapbooks. And while we may have visions of perfectly measured, detailed, charming pages fitting of a place in a magazine, beginner scrapbookers quickly begin to realize that there is a lot more to the craft than meets the eye. You get your page laid out and find that the pictures look a little bit lumpy, the ribbons look a little frayed, and everything seems a little bit off-centered.

Just as with any other skill, you will find that the more you practice the better you will become. You will also learn valuable tips along the way, such as it is better to apply the glue to the back of the photo itself rather than the background paper, how to effectively cut straight, and how to keep your decals from disappearing into the background. If you know that you have an event coming up that you are thinking would be a great time to get into scrapbooking, start now. Take holiday pictures from a couple of months ago and scrapbook those. Scrapbook pictures of loved ones having fun over the winter. After you get a couple of general scrapbooks under your belt, you will find that when it comes to journaling your big event your scrapbooks will look like the pros.
