  Here is a picture of the trees in Hawaii. They have roots growing down from the branches. The roots like this make the trunk of the tree look very big. The banyan tree grows and drops a root system from the tree. This is a small one comparied to the tree in Lahaina"s Courthouse Square. That tree was planted in 1873 and cover 2/3 of an acer.
