Island Hopping in Hawaii

When going to the Hawaiian Islands travelers have time limits. They want to know how to best use their vacation time and not miss the special sites. They want to know where to go “Island Hopping.” The Islands offer many varied vacation sites.

The islands were not all formed at the same time. Kauai is the oldest of the islands and Hawaii, and the Big Island is the newest. Sandy beaches, covered in fine, white sand, surround Kauai’s sculpted mountains. On the other hand, Hawaii has huge layers of black lava, not what we think of when we picture an island vacation.

The most popular sites in the islands are Pearl Harbor and Waikiki on Oahu. Over four million people visit this island every year. North Shore is also very popular because of its huge waves and winter surfing.

Maui, voted “The Best Island in the World” twelve years running, is the second most popular. If you want to get away from the crowds and see nature at its best, Maui's east side, Hana, is one of the least spoiled spots in all the islands. West Maui is the major tourist area with its numerous beaches and resorts.

Molokai and Lanai are small islands with miles of beaches but very few tourist areas. Both of these islands see few visitors. However, the two islands are quite different. Molokai is more the typical view of island life as it was before tourists were attracted to these islands. It is an excellent spot to relax and enjoy nature. Lanai has only two hotels, one on the beach and one in the mountains. These hotels are luxury spots and use ferries to take their visitors across the short distance to the activities on Maui.

As you can see, the Hawaiian Islands have much to offer. It will probably take more than one vacation to truly appreciate what these vacation islands have to offer. It is a good idea to plan ahead whether to spend your time at the fabulous resort spots or to seek out the beauty nature created from volcanoes.
