Glacier National Park is located in northwestern Montana and adjoins its neighbor, Waterton Glacier Park in Alberta, Canada and forms International Peace Park. There are a number of ways to take in the spectacular and multi-geological scenery. Be prepared for the unexpected vistas of Montana's jewel. There are stupendous waterfalls, pristine lakes, and seldom explored back country to view, photograph and truly immerse yourself. Where else could you see glaciers, ancient cedar and hemlock hardwood forests, mountains and peaks, and the Big Sky Country prairies? You'll even be able to experience Montana's only rain forest as well as an alpine glacier. The Red Bus Tours are your ticket to nature's presentation of incredible geologic, biologic and Native American history. The Jammers are your guides that provide commentaries as you move through glacier carved valleys and past majestic bluffs. They point out wildlife like grizzly and black bears, mountain goats, and big horn sheep. You can also choose to hike and camp overnight with supervision of the National Park Service. Adventurous visitors can enjoy wild water rafting or kayaking through scenic routes and try your hand at fly fishing in the pristine waters. If you prefer more sedate touring, you can take boat cruises or horseback rides. Whether you are walking to museums and through shops you are continuously surrounded by magnificent landscapes. After a full day of spa treatment, you'll be up for afternoon tea and then ready for a romantic boat cruise to watch an incredible sunset with a stop at a chalet or lodge for a luxurious dinner. As you hear the native names for scenic areas such as Bitterroot Valley, Lake Winnewanka, and Seeley Swan Valley you'll be taken aback to find out that the park is also known as the 'Switzerland of America'. |
